Born in October 1963 to the Noble Garkuwa family, in Nasarawa town, Nasarawa State Tpl Ahmed Mohammed Buhari attended the Central Primary School Nasarawa between 1969 and 1976 where he obtained 1st School Leaving Certificate. He went to Government Science School, which was then Community Secondary School Nasarawa between 1976 and 1981 and obtained G.C.E. O’Level.


In his quest for further studies, he gained admission into the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, and Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Full Professional Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning respectively. He then went to the famus Benue State University Makurdi to obtain a Degree of Masters in Urban and Regional Planning (M U R P) in 2011. He is currently a doctoral student in the same University.

Tpl Ahmed Mohammed Buhari has worked all his life in the training of Technicians and Technologist Town Planners in The Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa where he took appointment as a Higher Technical Instructor II in 1988 after his mandatory National Youth Service in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and rose to the Rank of Principal Lecturer in 2012 and was appointed the Head of Department in 2014.

In the area of contribution to Town Planning Profession in Nigeria, he was elected the Nasarawa state chapter chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) between 2011 and 2014 during which the state chapter hosted the 3rd leg of the annual MCPDP in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital in 2013. He was a member of the Membership Committee of NITP between 2012 and 2014. He was elected Chairman of the Publications Committee of NITP in 2014 and 2015 in Lagos and Ilorin, a position he holds till today.

In the field of Town Planning Practice, Tpl Ahmed was an advisor, Team member, facilitator and Consultant. He was a team member for the Street naming and house numbering exercise in Nasarawa town, Polytechnic Campus Master Plan review, Design of Sports Complex for the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Socio-economic data collection for Greater Karu master plan, Resource inventory for Karu, Kokona, Toto, Doma and Development guide for Keana Local Government Areas, Nasarawa State. Tpl Ahmed served as a Planning Advisor to Aim Consultants during the preparation of Nasarawa Urban Master Plan and a facilitator/supervisor to Shambilat Shelter Nig Ltd for the preparation of Akwanga Urban master plan Nasarawa State. He has made a remarkable contribution in the administration and management of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa as en elected Academic Staff representative to the Academic Board and Academic Board representative to the Governing Council between years 2000-2002. He is a member of The Academic Board as a Head of Academic Department. He is the current chairman, Polytechnic Academy (staff school), member of the management Standing Committee on Polytechnic Campus Beautification and Sanitation.

Tpl Ahmed Mohammed has published a number of Academic Journal Articles both locally and internationally in addition to his completed and on-going Thesis. He is happily married with children. He enjoys reading and travelling and is a devout Muslim.
