The theme of this year’s 2010 summit is ‘livable and sustainable cities for the future’.
The event focuses on leadership and governance, eco-friendly and livable cities, harmonious and sustainable communities. Held from June 28 to July 1 2010, the World Cities Summit 2010 was a resounding success. Information from the organisers indicates that over 1,000 delegates from all over the world of which close to 50 ministers, mayors, and governors were in attendance. Over 20 high-level plenary and expert panel sessions, held over the four days, provided ins
ightful discussions on finding effective urban solutions to create liveable and sustainable cities.
About 10 members of the Institute, led by the National President Tpl. Kabir M. Yari attended the event. In addition the Government of Lagos State participated in the Exhibition which showcased sustainable urban solutions from Africa. The NITP delegation seized the opportunity to visit the Singapore Institute of Planners, which are both members of the Commonwealth Institute of Planners (CAP). The two Institutes pledge future cooperation in areas of networking, sharing of experiences and training. An exposure visit/training tour will be arranged for members of NITP to learn from the good practices in sustainable urban development in Singapore.
