“Les Ateliers de Cergy” are a not-for-profit and public interest French association. Les Ateliers organize international and multidisciplinary workshops on topics related to urban development, decided hand in hand with local authorities. The goal is to collectively produce, by bringing together all the local actors, leads of analysis and projects proposals that could be directly
used by the local decision-makers and their partners in the planning process. Since 2005, Les Ateliers have been developing strong ties with African countries, through the participation of African students and professionals in the activities of the association, as well as through the organization of some workshops for the benefit of African cities (Porto-Novo in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012,
Saint-Louis in Senegal in 2010, Bamako in 2011, Thiès in 2012 and probably Douala in 2013).
Alongside with the development of these activities in Africa, we wish to create a shared cross-fields platform of knowledge and references, especially on topics specific to African cities and sometimes not well-known by planning professionals. We want to make this platform available for the participants of the workshops organized in Africa, and wish that it is later enriched by the
productions of the future workshops. The present call for applications aims at creating the initial basis of the platform that will especially be used during the workshop that will take place in Douala in 2013.
