Disconnect in land use in towns and cities, the 2nd National Vice President of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP) Tpl Lekwa Ezutah; FNITP made the call in an interview with RADIO NIGERIA in Abuja. Tpl Ezutah said the Institute had always conversed for strict compliance with Master Plans with provisions for reviews where necessary.
“The Master Plan is something that takes a lot of time to produce, so it is not something we should treat with a wave of the hand, just change it ant time we like. We normally converse for its religious implementation. It has provision for review there is procedure to bring it in line with current realities”.
Tpl Ezutah said alterations to Master Plans without due process were counterproductive to the development of the environment. He said the citizenry and stakeholders should report violators of MP or land use to appropriate authorities. “We take attempts every day in our society. You move to an area because you think you like that type of area. When deviations are being made introduced, our people think it doesn’t concern them. But the public should be concerned because when adverse effects start manifesting it affects everybody”.
Tpl Ezutah further said the Institute is prepared to offer advice to Government and Town Planning Authorities ensuring that Members engaged in un-professional matters would be sanctioned.
