A GOODWILL MESSAGE PRESENTED BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF TOWN PLANNERS (NITP), TPL LUKA B. ACHI (FNITP) ON THE WORLD HABITAT DAY CELEBRATION HELD ON 5TH OCTOBER, 2017 AT SGF HALL, FEDERAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA.
I heartily bring you all- dignitaries, organizers and participants alike on this august event, greetings from the National Council and entire members of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP).
The importance of shelter in the life of man as typified in good and affordable housing cannot be over-emphasized. The theme of this year’s Habitat Day Celebration, ‘Housing Policies- Affordable Homes’ aptly captured this essence. Seemingly, more interesting, is the focus of the event, ‘the role of young people in housing policies and the implementation of the new Urban Agenda at all levels in achieving the SDG Goal 11’s.
‘He, who puts on the shoes, knows where it pinches him most’ is a popular saying. There is no gainsaying the fact that women and children use the homes most. So, they are in a better position to tell how it feels to live in a good home. Therefore, bringing in young people to contribute in the issues of housing policies and implementation to this year’s programme, is to every intent and purpose, thoughtful. Hence I commend the organizers of the programme for this choice.
The issue of housing is dear to our hearts as Town Planners. Since, by reason of our professional calling, we provide the enabling environment for housing development, we are always ready to partner with all those identified as stakeholders in this sub-sector. I therefore, enjoin the organizers of this event to free to call on the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners any time it needs its services.
I wish you all a successful World Habitat Day Celebratiion.
Tpl Luka B. Achi FNITP,
National President, NITP.
