Press Release: Change of AGM Date

Following the emergency Management meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners on the 24th of October, 2018 on the current security situation in Kaduna state, as well as, the implications on the Conference and AGM originally slated to hold between 29th of October to 2nd November, 2018; the date of the event has been shifted forward.

Management gathered that the crisis is as a result of a communal clash 45 Km away from Kaduna metropolis and the kidnapping of a traditional ruler. The crisis which was threatening to spread into Kaduna Metropolis resulted in the imposition of a curfew.

Management notes the Unfortunate incident and sympathizes with the people and Government of Kaduna State.
Management further reviewed the situation with respect to the scheduled Conference and AGM and resolved that the event be postponed and shifted to hold between 19th and 23rd November, 2018 in Kaduna.

This difficult decision was taken considering the implications for all shades of opinions, apprehension and cost to members. Furthermore, previous decisions on matters like this required a shift in date to give room for monitoring before a change of venue. If the security situation does not improve, the new date will be retained and the venue changed to Abuja.

This release is the official statement of Management on the scheduled National Conference/ AGM 2018.
Please note that all inconveniences are sincerely regretted.

Thank you.

  1. Please, this Conference should be held in Abuja for this year, even if the incident took place 150km away from metropolis.Leaving it still in Kaduna might destroy the spirit and passions which has taken us years to build!
Our leaders should be able to carry us along in our yearning and supplication,as majority pray for the venue to be in Abuja.
Kaduna is not safe for this year, many will not attend this programme if our leaders insensitively insists it must be held in Kaduna, possibly, for a reason which may not be for the overall interests of the entire membership of the Institute.
